Off the Front
is a cycling term for a rider who has broken away from the pack.
Off The Front’s desire is to help kids in impoverished areas learn how to set goals and work hard to achieve those goals. And break away from education and obesity hindrances to succeed in the race of life.
Earn a Bike
We offer every fourth-grade student who attends a partnering school the opportunity to earn a bicycle when they achieve customized goals in academics, character, and healthy lifestyles.
The purpose of the bike is to motivate each child toward setting and achieving goals as well as learning about a healthy lifestyle they will continue in the years ahead.
Learn about the 2021 Earn a Bike program.
We encourage and incentivize elementary school kids to lead healthy and active lifestyles by actively commuting to school.
Students’ backpacks are equipped with an individual radio frequency identification (RFID) tag, which is scanned as they ride, walk, or otherwise actively commute to school.
As a result, kids earn $.10/trip that is banked and used to purchase items at our mobile store.
We hope to show students how accessible it is to incorporate physical activity into their daily lives by making simple, intentional choices.
We fix kids’ bicycles so they can continue to be physically active throughout their lives.
We recognize the importance of maintaining the bikes earned in our program and the need to equip kids with the necessary skills to fix their own bikes.
We created a mobile bike repair trailer with all the parts and tools needed to perform bike repairs at our partnering schools.
This free bike repair service is offered to the kids in our program and anyone in the neighborhoods of our partnering schools.

How off the Front Measures Success
Two primary areas determine success: academics and health.
In academics, the student’s overall performance should progress during the year they are earning their bike. With this incentive, improvements in Math, Reading, English-Language Arts, etc., will be used as measurable goals.
Off The Front seeks to demonstrate that each child who has consistently participated in our training for an entire school year will noticeably improve their overall health. We verify those improvements by tracking the number of trips and miles each child accrues and by compiling the results from the California Physical Fitness Test.
Off the Front is a 501(C)(3) non-profit based in Fresno, CA. Our goal is to battle the issues plaguing Fresno’s impoverished areas, namely poverty, education, and obesity.
